Billing Policy
Many patients are not aware that they do not have to be "out of pocket" for pathology testing. Most pathology tests are covered by Medicare and can be Bulk Billed (direct billed) to Medicare. This means the patient does not receive an account and has nothing to pay if all the testing is Bulk Billed to Medicare.
Gribbles will directly bill (bulk bill) Medicare for all Pensioners, Health Care Card holders or where specifically requested by your doctor for all tests covered by Medicare. For DVA Gold Card holders all charges will be billed directly to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
For all other patients or tests not covered by Medicare reimbursements, or if the patient is not covered by Medicare (e.g. an overseas visitor) then Gribbles will issue an account to the patient with the fee set at AMA recommended rates. A maximum out of pocket charge of $140 has been set for all tests covered by Medicare.
